Well, here goes something. I’m approaching 50 years old and this will be my first written blog ever … hopefully not the first and the last. 😳 I’m not really sure what direction my written ramblings may take, but I am confident they will cover a wide spectrum of topics from family and work to news, sport and entertainment. I can be king of the segue at times, but my transitions will not be as fluid or smooth as a well spoken politician or a charismatic cult leader.

You see, I have an opportunity for a radical career change in the next 18 months or so … it’s exhilarating yet terrifying at the same time. When you do the same thing for over 23.5 years (nearly half your life) and work with the same population, you tend to become an expert (self-proclaimed) in your field. Some may find comfort in this because it’s nice to know you have a place of expertise in an industry where not too many people understand the scope or nuances (or nuisances) of your daily work. Most of the time, the importance of my job will go unnoticed by the community I serve and under appreciated by the individuals I work with directly. I just know that it’s been a great run, but not sure that I have another 7 years left in me to face the stress, perils and frustration I deal with on a daily basis with an extremely dangerous population. How many people get to retire from 1 career with the opportunity to start a new one? 50 is the new 30 … just with a slower metabolism and some arthritis! Anyway, I won’t disclose my specific job title in this writing, but many of those who follow the SpartyHawk Cache brand on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or even YouTube may already know the hat I wear away from the social media world of #TheHobby.

One thing is for sure, I am looking forward to the change and a new challenge to help keep my mind fresh and allow me to have more quality time with my family. I have a daughter entering college in 2020 and a son currently in kindergarten with a daughter and another son still in preschool. However, once this blog goes public, the first criticism I will face will not be from the Federal Government, but instead my wife who will definitely lambaste me for still not writing a single word in the baby books of our 3 younger kids. 😬 This could be a fate worse than a Guantanamo Bay rendition. Nobody is perfect … she definitely knows this.

So for now, I’ll leave this as my formal introduction into the world of blogging. I hope to provide future readers (fingers crossed there are a few) with some humor, insight and candor throughout my random written soliloquies! Let’s see where this goes.
